Warrior Women is an indigenous-led collective organized around the principle that we must know who are to move forward and we cannot study the past without making contributions to the present. In this spirit, we have two main areas of focus: Research and Cultural Preservation, and Outreach and Community Revitalization. Our mission is to ensure the informed future of indigenous nations through culturally relevant research and outreach programming. Research and Cultural Preservation is an oral history and film project aimed at capturing the incomparable voices of those women who changed the face of Indian Country forever by leading the Red Power Movement since the 1960s. Many of these women have continued this difficult and often invisible work in their home reservation or urban Indian communities. Their experiences and historical interpretations are the foundation of social change for future generations. We intend on making them available to the global community. Outreach and Community Revitalization is our multi-faceted project to support the existing activist efforts ongoing in Indian Country. Rather than allow major foundations to dictate the “issue of the day” we recognize that local women know what’s best for their communities and support it.
