VALA’s mission is to overcome cultural differences, forge social bonds, and create artistic possibilities of expression for disadvantaged preschool and elementary school children from different ethnic backgrounds. Through this process, we help children improve writing and literacy skills and introduce teachers to a multicultural interdisciplinary approach to teaching the arts with writing. We believe that language can be taught using the visual arts, dance, bookmaking, storytelling, theater, and music.
