Environmental sustainability
The mission of Honor the Earth is to be a voice for the Earth and to support Indigenous communities and lifeways on this earth through strategic campaigns on environmental justice, youth leadership development, regranting, and nurturing sustainable and culturally based communities. Honor the Earth develops these resources by using music, the arts, media, and Indigenous wisdom to ask people to recognize our joint dependency on the Earth and be a voice for those who are not heard. Honor the Earth works to support front line indigenous environmental and community struggles to protect land, water, and our Mother Earth. Since 1993, we have moved a broad agenda of environmental justice in Native America by carrying out over 75 concerts and granting over $1 million to front line Native environmental groups. A project of the Tides Center since 1998, Honor the Earth has structured initiatives into two parts - grantmaking and energy justice. Within both, our strategy involves supporting grassroots initiatives to draw attention to issues of sustainability and the important environmental work being carried out in Native communities.
