Project Description:

The words "curing" and "curating" have the same root word, curare, in Latin, "to help, to heal." This is our mission.Art Works for Change goals are three-fold: *to use art as a catalyst to address social and environmental issues *to create museum-quality international traveling art exhibitions with world-class artists *to partner with educational and advocacy organizations to provide context and a public action component to each exhibition Our current exhibition-in-production, Off the Beaten Path: Violence, Women and Art, a multi-media exhibit featuring 25 internationally renown artists, utilizes the transformative and healing power of world-class art as a catalyst to: *Increase education around the world of gender-based violence *Promote awareness of global violence against girls and women; what is taking place in various countries and the advocacy and behaviors that can lead to change and a more enlightened thinking *Inspire the belief that communities can change a culture of violence through education, understanding and specific actions *Empower girls and women with respect to violence, exploitation and discrimination *Address systems for social change such as our educational systems, religious and cultural beliefs, the military, and sexual and reproductive freedoms *Open doors for a new kind of behavior and morality between people—building peace
